I've been vegan for about a month and a half, give or take, and I've only lost about seven pounds. I made the mistake of buying Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World, though, and if you like cupcakes and want to lose weight I don't recommend it. If, however, you want to be a happy vegan, try some of them out.
You get to decide where to draw the line for your veganism. I avoid whey and casein like the plague but I will still eat regular sugar if it's the only thing available or I am feeling particularly poor. I still knit with wool because it is the only fiber I like and I am careful as to which kind I will buy. I don't think that it makes me less vegan, and if someone wants to call the vegan police on me, well...I guess they can. I think it is better to make informed decisions about what you are and are not willing to tolerate, and make sure that you make the best decisions that you can.
Good luck!

I have close friends who became vegetarians many years ago. They eat a lot of dairy products, so they actually ended up gaining weight. If you don’t eat dairy products for 40 days, I’ll bet you’ll lose weight. Please keep us posted!

This is great! I pleased to see you're thinking about going vegan for Lent - well done! I've been vegan for a couple of years now and have never looked back. Of course you can take things as fast or slow as you like, and being 99% vegan is pretty darn good. Good luck, and check back on Fish and Chimps to let me know how you get on :)
